Does anybody know who did the biker tests in West Covina that the undercover ATF agents were able to beat?

I don't know but I think we should all send Ed Gelb a thank you note for his contribution to the article you linked.

I was told a story once about a similar case in which the gang approached a private polygraph examiner about doing the tests. He contacted the law enforcement folks and told them about it and told them to tell their undercovers to take the tests when asked. They showed up, took the tests and passed! Whew was that a close one!

Ethical? Who cares! Biker gangs are not good chart readers. The undercovers lived and made their case. The examiner should be commended! Unfortunately he couldn't be officially. He had to take the heat for being beaten by those well trained undercovers.

Don't you just hate it when that happens.

Skip,
I would like to be able to assume that the examiner knew what he was doing, but if he was somebody like Grogan it may have been gross incompetence.

I have a vague recollection of someone mentioning this scenario, during an ethics discussion in this forum or some email, about a year or two ago.

I searched briefly for it, but couldn't find it.

It has happened before but I am not at liberty to reveal the person or the circumstances but they were very close to what happened here. The examiner was an APA member and made a decision to alert authorities and play it out for the sake of the undercovers and the investigation. I think it was both a proper move and a ballsy one for the examiner.

That is about the only scenario that makes sense, and saying they are trained to beat it is one of the best forms of inoculation for future attempts they may not be in on - if that's what happened.
